Name: Monument in Teodoro Cuesta's honour
Description: Teodoro Cuesta García-Ruiz is considered the most popular poet in Asturias. He was born in Mieres in the Pasera neighbourhood on November 9th, 1829. Between 1876 and 1890 his literary work was abundant ahd his fame spread in Asturias. His "Poesías asturianas" ('Asturian Poems') were published in 1896. One of his most celebrated works is "Andalucía and Asturias", which was edited several times. He also wrote "El protomártir asturiano Fr. Melchor García Sampedro" ('The Asturian proto-martyr Fr. Melchor García Sampedro'), a poem writen in Bable (Asturian dialect) (Poema en bable). Murio el 1 de febrero de 1895.
