Name: Polio Shaft (Pozu Polio)
Description: It is a coal mining exploitation located in Santa Rosa, in the parish of Rioturbio (Mieres). It is called Polio Shaft because of the mountain where it was settled. In the beginning, it was one of the most important exploitations of the former Fábrica de Mieres (Mieres Factory) which it supplied with coal and one of the first big industrial frameworks in Spain's history. Then it belonged to the state company Hulleras del Norte S.A. (Hunosa) in 1967, and it was closed on Noviembre 1st 1992.
Nowadays, there are two shafts that were digged down in the 1950's, with their own headframes and the rest of buldings used during its exploitation
It attracts the atention the twin headfreames which are 39,41 metres high. They are on high artificial land next to the river.
