Basic details

Name: Santuario de Los Mártires (Sanctuary of the Martyrs) (Los Martires)
Description: It is a Pedro Ruiz de Somonte's work. It has got a Latin cross floor with a tower at its feet and portico in both sides. It also has got a flat chevet and the porticos are supported by right wooden feet on concrete walls and are joined with the low floor of the tower, which opens in three semicircular arches. The tower has got two floors with oculus. In the inside it has got two stretches divided by ashlar transverse arches and a barrel vault with lunettes and decorated with pictures. The main chancel is covered by a starry vault.
In the beginning it was devoted to Saint Esteban, but in the 17th century it probably changed its title. In a 18th century reform, it was found a stone rough altar from the 7th or 8th centuries under the presbitery.
On September 27th, it is celebrated a festival around this sanctuary, which is called Fiesta de los Santos Mártires de Valdecuna (Festival of the Saint Martyrs of Valdecuna).
