Basic details

Name: El Monsacro (Mountain) (La Malena)
Description: Right in Morcin council, we can find with the Monsacro rocky mass, a sacred mountain and a worship place since ancestral times. Its paticular shape can be made out from many places of the Central Mountain (Montaña Central )of Asturias. This mountain housed in the past the sacred relics brought from Toledo, until it was built the Holy Chamber in the Cathedral of Oviedo.
On its top, its link to the sacred is reinforced by the construction of two small chapels of pre-Romanesque origin and Romanesque reconstruction, devoted to Santiago Apostol and Magdalena Virgin's appelations.
El Monsacro is also known due to its special link with the ancient military order of the Temple. It is famous because of its defense of the Sacred Places, its wealth and its mysterious rituals practiced by its knights. It was dissolved by the Pope Clemente V in 1312, due to the King of France's accusations of treason, heresy and sodomy.

Sin duda el Monsacro y sus alrededores son un verdadero tesoro. Esperemos no lo estropeen con un teleférico, un funicular o cualquier otra idea brillante.
